Woodworth Centennial Books Project 2011

The cultural history of the Woodworth community has been chronicled in four separate publications through the years. The first book by Nelson A. Mason covered the period from 1863 to 1938; the second book (often referred to as the Blue Book) that was published via the Woodworth Community Betterment Club covered the period from 1911 to 1986, i.e., the first 75 years after being chartered. The third book is an autobiographical synopsis of living in the Woodworth area from 1902-1989 by Mary E. (Kittel) Goodman. The fourth book will be published by the Woodworth Centennial Book Committee and, for the most part, it covers the cultural history of the Woodworth Community during the past 25 years (1986-2011) since the 75th Jubilee Celebration.

So if you desire to become better informed about the Woodworth Area and its cultural history, we highly recommend that you begin your quest by reading all of the above publications which will be available in June 2011 in paper or electronic copies. Another book entitled “Reflections on Sixty Years of Duck Hunting Experiences” by Ken Higgins, will be available and most of his stories are from the Woodworth Area including hunts with Doc Melzer!

Hard copies of all five of these books will be available for sale on Friday afternoon, June 24, all day Saturday, June 25, and Sunday morning, June 26 at the Senior Citizens Center in Woodworth (located across the street from the Post Office building). We will also have CDs for sale which contains an electronic copy of all four history books on each CD copy.

Please note: There are no credit card capabilities in Woodworth; thus any purchases, etc., will need to be paid with cash or check. However, there is an ATM cash machine in “Stub’s Pub” bar that is available for public use.
